ASSESSMENT OF BUILDING FAILURES IN NIGERIA: A CASE STUDY OF JOS METROPOLIS

ABSTRACT: 
Building failure resulting in the loss of lives and properties in Nigeria has been reported in the pastfew years. However, there has been a dearth of information regarding any findings about thecollapse of the building structures. This study examines the case of structural failure that recentlyoccurred to a two storey residential building in Jos Metropolis, Plateau State. A study of someselected collapsed buildings in Nigeria is carried out in this work. The methodology includesconduct of investigations and site inspections. Proposed preventive measures are also suggested inthe Nigerian context in order to reduce and possibly stop the incessant cases of building collapse.
